Despite its impressive features, this camper van maintains affordability, addressing a significant obstacle to camper van ownership—cost. A new 2024 Ford Transit Trail high-roof, starting at around $72,000, equipped with Wayfarer Vans’ Wilford interior conversion (starting at $24,000, this instance totaling approximately $28,000), delivers a well-equipped camper van for around $100,000. This cost-effective approach allows for investing in a new van, allocating the remaining budget to a flexible and uncomplicated interior.

Another challenge in camper van ownership is the complexity of customization. Wayfarer simplifies this process by focusing on converting specific models of new and used (2014-and-newer) Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster vans (excluding Mercedes-Benz Sprinters). Each model has a distinct name: the 136-inch wheelbase high-roof Ram ProMaster is Walter, the longer 159-inch wheelbase ProMaster is Walt, and the 148-inch wheelbase Ford Transit builds are named Wilma (mid-roof) and Wilford (high-roof). Wayfarer’s conversions, named Walter, Walt, Wilma, and Wilford, range in price from $21,200 to $24,500.

A Wayfarer conversion encompasses a comprehensive transformation of the cargo van’s interior, converting it into a comfortable retreat. The Wilford conversion, for instance, includes flooring, cargo tracks, 100-percent wool insulation, and soft, removable panels throughout. The furniture, made of UV-treated water and scratch-resistant Baltic Birch, features a kitchen galley, high-back boot boxes, a Lagun swivel table, upper cabinets, and a spacious rear sleeping area with a five-inch-thick memory foam mattress.

The modular and flexible design of Wayfarer interiors addresses another hurdle in camper ownership—committing to a fixed layout. While a preset layout is chosen for installation, users can easily reconfigure or remove furniture using a 9/16-inch socket wrench, providing versatility and adaptability.

One of the remarkable aspects of Wayfarer’s approach is the efficiency of their buildouts, completed in as little as one day due to pre-cut and assembled interior pieces. This addresses the common issue of extended waitlists and prolonged build times associated with camper van ownership.

Wayfarer’s Colorado Springs facility handles all conversions, and to facilitate the process, the company contributes up to $2,000 to assist in shipping the van from the owner’s residence to the shop. With install appointments typically scheduled between two to nine weeks after acquiring the van, Wayfarer aims to streamline the camper van ownership experience.

In summary, Wayfarer Vans presents an affordable, modular, and timely solution with its Ford Transit Trail Wilford conversion, offering a straightforward path to experiencing the joys of camper van travel. With a proven track record of over 1,000 vans on the road since 2015, Wayfarer continues to make strides in the camper van industry.
