DJ Chark and Brian Burns Lead the Injury Brigade
It seems like Lady Luck has not been kind to the Panthers this week. DJ Chark, the wide receiver, is nursing an elbow injury, and Brian Burns, our trusty edge rusher, is dealing with a concussion and an elbow issue. These two stars are among the eight players who didn’t hit the field for practice.
Coach Frank Reich had some rather grim news in his press conference on Monday. When asked about Burns’ chances of playing in Week 10, he replied, “I’m not even thinking there’s any chance of getting him back for Thursday, honestly.” He continued, “Even if there were, there’s a part of me that I can’t imagine letting him out there — even if he wanted to go out there.” Ouch!
Brian Burns has been a force to be reckoned with, leading the team with 5.0 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 10 QB hits. DJ Chark is no slouch either, coming in second on the team with 229 receiving yards on 17 catches and three touchdowns.
CJ Henderson, Laviska Shenault, and the Injury Bug
The injury bug didn’t stop with Chark and Burns. Cornerback CJ Henderson is dealing with a concussion, while receiver Laviska Shenault has an ankle issue. These two were also missing from practice on Monday. It’s like the injury fairy decided to pay a visit to the Panthers’ camp.
The List Keeps Growing
The injury list doesn’t end there, folks. Tight end Stephen Sullivan is nursing a shoulder injury, linebacker Luis Vilain has a knee problem, safety Xavier Woods has a thigh issue, and linebacker Chandler Wooten is struggling with an ankle injury. It’s like they say, when it rains, it pours!
The Lone Warrior
Amid all these injury woes, safety Vonn Bell stands tall. He would have been a full participant in practice after missing the last three games. It’s good to see some silver lining in the injury cloud.
Some Rays of Hope
In better news, running back Raheem Blackshear, offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu, linebacker Marquis Hayes, linebacker Frankie Luvu, and tight end Tommy Tremble were listed as “full.” Maybe they can sprinkle some magic dust on the Panthers and help them pull through on Thursday.
Let’s hope the Panthers can overcome this injury adversity and give the Bears a run for their money. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and sending healing vibes to the injured players. Go Panthers!
