I’m no stranger to public nudity. As a gay Clothing-Optional Hospitality adult man, I’ve had my fair share of experiences at nude beaches, bathhouses, and even practiced stripped-down yoga. I’ve embraced naked sauna culture, particularly during my time in Scandinavia. While I wouldn’t consider myself a naturist, I do love exploring all that life has to offer, even if it means shedding my clothes in the company of strangers.

Clothing-Optional Hospitality
However, clothing-optional hotels were uncharted territory for me until recently. For years, I’d heard tales of nude resorts in the desert oasis of Palm Springs, California, which seemed like a haven for nudists like myself. My curiosity finally led me to Descanso, a nudist resort for men tucked away on a desert road in Palm Springs.
Approaching the resort, I didn’t know what to expect. The thick vines curling along its walls and frosted glass gave it an air of mystery. Despite its billing as “serene, comfortable, and sophisticated,” I was skeptical. In my experience, nudity and sophistication rarely went hand in hand. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the resort’s immaculate and sleek design, reminiscent of a secret 1960s garden.
Upon arrival, I encountered a mix of guests lounging by the pool, some fully nude while others opted for swimwear. Complimentary glasses of wine were poured, and the ambiance felt like a scene from a Slim Aarons photograph. It was a clothing-optional resort elevated to an exclusive and sophisticated level.
As I settled into my room and explored the resort further, I felt a sense of community among the guests. Conversations flowed easily, and I received invitations to dinner and drinks, along with tips on local attractions. Despite my initial apprehension, I quickly embraced the naturist lifestyle and felt a deep connection to my surroundings.
During my stay, I visited Twin Palms, another nudist resort in Palm Springs, which offered a different vibe but still exuded a sense of civility. I realized that these resorts were not about exhibitionism but rather fostering a deeper connection with oneself and others. There was a vulnerability in being naked that encouraged kindness and equality among guests.
One of the highlights of my stay was visiting The Spa at Séc-he, where I experienced the natural hot springs of Palm Springs in the nude. It was a transformative experience, bringing me closer to nature and myself.
Overall, my perception of Palm Springs and nudist resorts has changed. These resorts offer more than just a chance for cheap thrills; they provide an opportunity for guests to relax, connect, and be free without judgment. Leaving behind my inhibitions allowed me to leave with a lighter spirit and a newfound appreciation for the nudist sentiment.
