An Exclusive Location

You know it’s a big deal when a store with a nearly 56,000-square-foot space announces its arrival. Publix is all set to nestle itself at the Triple Crown Shopping Center, right at the southwest corner of Triple Crown Boulevard and Richwood Road.

And, as if that’s not exciting enough, they’re throwing in an adjacent liquor store too. You’ll be able to grab that bottle of wine or six-pack of your favorite beverage just steps away from your groceries. It’s like they know what we need!

Challenge Accepted, Kroger

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, or should I say the shopping cart? This move by Publix is a direct challenge to Kroger, the reigning supermarket giant in Greater Cincinnati. Kroger’s been raking in a mind-boggling amount of dough, nearly half of the region’s $7.1 billion in grocery sales. Publix is here to shake things up, and we’re here for it!

Kroger’s Dominance

Kroger has been sitting on the throne, claiming more than 46% of the market share in the Cincinnati metro area. That’s a lot of apples and bananas! In fact, Tampa-based industry-tracker Chain Store Guide confirms that Kroger is the undisputed kingpin. Meanwhile, Walmart isn’t too far behind, controlling nearly 25% of the grocery sales in the region through its supercenters and Sam’s Club.

Meijer: The Underdog

Let’s not forget about Meijer, the distant No. 3 grocer in town with a 9% market share. It’s like the friendly neighbor who always waves but is rarely invited to the block party. Publix, with its Florida and Georgia roots, is ready to mix things up and show these grocery giants what they’re made of.

Publix’s Southern Invasion

More than three-quarters of Publix stores are sprinkled across the sunny states of Florida and Georgia, where they’re kind of a big deal. But here’s the twist – in the last five years, Publix has been stretching its legs and opening stores in other southern states like Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

It’s like a southern invasion, and they’re making sure we all get a taste of that famous Publix hospitality. So, Boone County, get your shopping lists ready because Publix is about to make grocery shopping a whole lot sweeter. And who knows, maybe they’ll bring some of that Florida sunshine with them. Can’t wait for 2025 to arrive!
