In anticipation of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, the Television Academy unveiled a list of the 75 most impactful television moments, featuring a substantial representation of noteworthy music moments. Among these, MTV takes the lead with three pivotal moments: the channel’s debut in 1981, the unveiling of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video in 1983, and the introduction of The Real World in 1992.

The Super Bowl and The Ed Sullivan Show also contribute significantly, each claiming two top music moments. The Super Bowl showcases Whitney Houston’s iconic rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and a memorable wardrobe malfunction, while The Ed Sullivan Show is remembered for Elvis Presley and The Beatles’ groundbreaking performances.

The top two moments transcend music, with Neil Armstrong’s historic moon landing in 1969 claiming the number one spot, followed by the live coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The list was curated by the TV Academy from several hundred submitted programs and news moments, ultimately presenting them to members for voting. With the upcoming 75th Primetime Emmys broadcast, the Academy aimed to commemorate the 75th anniversary, which was delayed due to Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes.
