“Sweet Success: Mechanicsburg’s Alaina Sweet Named Mid-Penn Conference Player of the Year”

On Sunday afternoon, the Mid-Penn Conference revealed its much-anticipated lists of winter sports all-stars, spotlighting outstanding performances across various divisions. Among the distinguished group of 24 Sentinel-area girls basketball players earning recognition on all-division teams, Mechanicsburg’s standout sophomore, Alaina Sweet, stood out as a shining star, securing the coveted title of the Keystone Division’s player of the year.

Sweet, a dynamic guard, played a pivotal role in Mechanicsburg’s triumphant journey to clinch the Keystone Division title, marking the program’s first victory since 2021. Additionally, her contributions propelled Mechanicsburg to an impressive seventh-place finish in the District 3 Class 5A tournament, securing a coveted spot in the state playoffs.

Recognizing the remarkable achievements of Mechanicsburg’s basketball program, Clay McAllister, the team’s esteemed coach, received well-deserved accolades as the Keystone Division’s coach of the year.

In addition to Sweet’s accolades, other standout players within the Mid-Penn Conference received notable distinctions, including Central Dauphin’s Alexis Ferguson (Commonwealth Division), Greencastle-Antrim’s Haley Noblit (Colonial Division), and Susquehanna Township’s Schuyler Coles (Capital Division), who were all recognized as players of the year in their respective divisions. Moreover, the conference acknowledged the coaching prowess of Central Dauphin’s Randy Gambelunghe (Commonwealth Division), Waynesboro’s Tyler Stoner (Colonial Division), and Susquehanna Township’s Terrance L. Clark Sr. (Capital Division), who each earned coach of the year honors for their exceptional leadership throughout the season.
