Comparing the first style to the “strategic stalker” approach seen in the Dishonored series and likening it to “stealth-focused builds” in Fallout or Elder Scrolls, Skidmore emphasized the importance of strategic combat experiences, where staying hidden and deploying surprise tactics are crucial.

The second playstyle, described as an “action brawler,” centers around being at the heart of the brawl and utilizing abilities to control the crowd while maximizing damage. Skidmore drew inspiration from games like the God Of War series, Shadow Of Mordor, and Elden Ring for this style.

The third playstyle, named “narrative adventurer,” shifts the focus away from combat and action gameplay, emphasizing the fantasy, narrative, and exploration elements of the game.

Skidmore highlighted that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 prioritizes “immersion over complexity” with these diverse playstyles. He emphasized the team’s pursuit of “immersive combat,” allowing players to focus on what cool actions they want to take rather than the intricacies of execution.

The game aims to fulfill the “vampire fantasy” in both combat and non-combat experiences, ensuring that choices carry weighty consequences. Skidmore previously mentioned borrowing elements from Baldur’s Gate 3 to enhance the sense of meaningful choices in the game.
